Weir Farm
In July 2011, I had an artist-in-residency at Weir Farm Art Center in in Wilton, Connecticut. The Weir Farm is a very unique artist residency program. Painter, J. Alden Weir, transformed this modest farm into a refuge for fellow artists in the summer of 1882. They award artists-in-residency opportunities to artists from around the world. The awarded artist is the only artist on-site for one month. This was a new and unique experience for me.
Images of the work I did there will be posted soon.
Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts
For the month of May, 2010 and again in May, 2011, I had an artist-in-residency at NISDA (Nantucket Island School of Design and the Arts). I hadn’t been there for 25 years. And never for this long. I met some really wonderful people, Edwin Rudd and Rob Head, local artists, introduced me to many great sites and people. What follows is a selection of photos of some of the work I did.
Anderson Center for the Arts in Redwing, Minnesota
In the month of May 2007 I had an artist in residency at the Anderson Center for the Arts, in Redwing, Minnesota. Alexander Anderson, the inventor of the puffing process, as in Quaker Puffed Rice and Oats, built this really interesting homestead, laboratory and research center in 1907. Totally tornado-proof. Complete with underground tunnels to each building in case there is 8 feet of snow outside, which is very possible in the Minnesota plains. I was there with 5 other artists for the month of May. There was one other visual artist. Everyone else was a poet, play-write, or writer. On the top of the tower there was a really cool little writing studio. I feel very fortunate to have been there and found the Anderson people to be really supportive. The center has since been populated with sculptures from previous acquisitions and artist residents.
